Cream Cheese and Caramel Apple Dip

I had this years ago at a potluck.  If was so good, it was hard to stop eating it.   With the apples in it, it almost makes you think you’re eating something healthy.  Almost.  I finally found an opportunity to make this yesterday for a friend’s wedding.  One of her daughter’s loves fruit, and so, I thought it would be a good treat for the kids.  I’m not sure if my friends daughter actually tried the dip as I never saw her go near the food, but, there are leftovers.  All the kids who did try it, loved it.  They were most excited about the caramel, of course, although they were pretty jazzed about the apples themselves.

You will need:

  • 1 8-ounce box cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (or less)
  • caramel dip
  • apples

Let the cream cheese soften at room temperature.  Add the powdered sugar, and mix with an electric hand mixer until fluffy.

Spread out on plate.  Let caramel dip get to room temperature, or warm gently in microwave for a few seconds.  Spread gently on top of cream cheese.  Arrange apple slices around edge for easy dipping.

Enjoy!

Note:  I actually used 2 boxes of cream cheese (1 pound), and only about 1/3 cup powdered sugar.  The apples I used were very large, premium Braeburns which are crisp and tart-sweet.  I did not use lemon juice on them.  I cut the apples about 2 1/2 hours before, and they still looked good.
